Call for housing sector HR to help benchmark benefits

12 March 2019

Housing HR professionals are urged to take part in a sector-wide survey, designed to compare how providers are attracting and retaining talent.

The Total Reward survey – run by ema consultancy Limited, a company that provides recruitment, training and governance services to more than 200 housing providers each year – aims to give an accurate picture of the benefits and pay packages on offer.

The survey, which is in its fifth year, captures trends in benefits, flexible working, pensions and anticipated pay increases. It will remain open for responses until April 3. It will provide an overview of how pay and benefits are being applied nationally and also – for the first time – how this compares with commercial organisations.

Anne Elliott, Managing Director at ema consultancy Limited, said: “Each year more than 100 organisations have taken part in the survey, enabling us to make strong comparisons between previous years and support boards and executives to make decisions on future pay and benefit awards.

“There is a real need to not only retain talent in the housing sector, but also to attract new talent to it. It is only by understanding what the offer looks like to employees that housing sector employers can understand how they could improve their overall reward offering.

“The survey will help providers understand if they are offering tenants value for money in terms of spend on wage, the risks of not retaining staff and the gaps in current award packages where they could create a point of interest and difference compared to other similar organisations.”

All participants will be provided with a full report of the results.

Housing providers wanting a free copy of the 2019 survey, a copy of their 2019 entry if they took part or a PDF of the questions can contact Lorna Lee on 01926 887272 or lorna.lee@emaconsultancy.org.uk.
